D3: Alsace: Background: Alsace Grand Cru with Laure Adam
Laure Adam is 15th generation family member of Jean-Baptiste Adam, one of the oldest wineries in Alsace, established in 1614. We talk about the region, its climate and grapes. There are 51 Grand Crus which only started to be categorised in the 1980s. The Kaefferkopf Grand Cru is famous for its blended wine made with Gewurtztraminer (min. 60%) and Riesling plus a small proportion of Muscat or Pinot Gris is allowed. There are talks of a Premier Cru category being introduced but no final plans.
There are 9 grape varieties: 4 noble grapes Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris & Muscat with Sylvaner, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Auxerrois and for red, Pinot Noir.
I thought the questions were excellent, an extremely valuable revision tool. They really helped highlight areas I thought I had revised and understood but clearly had not, which has enabled me to focus on key areas to revisit and study before going into the exam... I think it is a great resource and an essential revision aid for any WSET 3 students wishing to gain a competitive edge and successfully pass the WSET 3 exam.
