D2: Markets: Background: The Swedish Alcohol Monopoly with Sara Norell
The Swedish Alcohol Monopoly, Systembolaget, was introduced in 1955 to unite a number of different monopolies that had been operating across the country. The monopoly exists in order to regulate the sale of alcohol and thereby help society to drink responsibly.
The monopoly seems to be working - 10 years ago research showed 66% of people wanted to keep the monopoly and today that has increased to 77%.
They have around 430 stores to serve a population of 10 million with another 450 pick up points for online orders. We talk about pricing, supply and distribution.
I thought the questions were excellent, an extremely valuable revision tool. They really helped highlight areas I thought I had revised and understood but clearly had not, which has enabled me to focus on key areas to revisit and study before going into the exam... I think it is a great resource and an essential revision aid for any WSET 3 students wishing to gain a competitive edge and successfully pass the WSET 3 exam.
