D3: South Africa: Background: Elgin with Andries Burger from Paul Cluver Part 2
For the whites, Paul Cluver grow Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Semillon. The biggest planted variety is Sauvignon Blanc, but unusually they tend to blend in a little Semillon to give more richness and complexity to the wine. However, the most successful and sought after grape variety in the Elgin region itself is Chardonnay. They are also growing Riesling and Gewurtztraminer. For reds, they grow Pinot Noir exclusively, which they find is by far the best grape for the cooler climate of Elgin. Visit: www.cluver.com/wine
I thought the questions were excellent, an extremely valuable revision tool. They really helped highlight areas I thought I had revised and understood but clearly had not, which has enabled me to focus on key areas to revisit and study before going into the exam... I think it is a great resource and an essential revision aid for any WSET 3 students wishing to gain a competitive edge and successfully pass the WSET 3 exam.
