D1: Climate: Background: Alistair Nesbitt on Climate Change and UK Wine
This week we discuss climate change with Alistair Nesbitt. Alistair is a viticultural climatologist and explains that while the climate is warming in the UK the variability in the weather has not changed.
The fact that the weather is improving does not necessarily mean that so is the viability of viticulture in the UK. Frost risk appears not to have changed, neither has the rain. It is this variability that puts vintages at risk of lost production, or as happens too often, a written off season. So while the climate/temperatures are improving there appears to be no change to the business risks.
I thought the questions were excellent, an extremely valuable revision tool. They really helped highlight areas I thought I had revised and understood but clearly had not, which has enabled me to focus on key areas to revisit and study before going into the exam... I think it is a great resource and an essential revision aid for any WSET 3 students wishing to gain a competitive edge and successfully pass the WSET 3 exam.
